Florida might get High-Speed Rail after all …
… and maybe even before California does … (not that that would be particularly difficult, the way things are looking now).
According to a report in The Ledger, the new Governor of Florida seems to have a much more favorable view of the Florida High-Speed Rail project and things might be moving forwards again - finally.

I am very much a passenger rail supporter but I think the florida high speed rail project is a taxpayer’s money sucking entity of ‘consultants’, tallahassee politicians feeding at the trough, and big construction companies with their eyes on the potential pot of gold. what is more important and far more feasible is ’standard’ rail service (79 or even 90 mph) on the east coast (FEC route) and also service on the lower west coast: sarasota, ft. myers, naples, by upgrading existing track. there are now millions more people living in these two service areas than when passenger rail last served. amtrak through service should be a feasible option.
