Bush wants to get rid of Amtrak

Ok, President Bush has never been a friend of passenger rail and Amtrak. Year after year, Amtrak had to fight for enough money just to stay alive and continue operating. The situation in the U.S. is no different from anywhere else - passenger rail services depend on government subsidies. But then, so do all other modes of transportation. After all, who’s paying for all those roads and airports? Who’s paying the traffic police’s and air traffic controllers’ salaries?

Now, President Bush has proposed to cut funding for Amtrak to nothing in his budget proposal for FY 2006. Yes, that is $ 0. He prefers to continue to spend a pile of money for the war in Iraq. Does that make sense? I don’t think so. Do you?
